Match Attack
Match 3 game with Facebook's API integrated
Match attack was an assignment to make a match 3 game.
We didn't want to just make a standard match-three game, we wanted to make the gameplay more engaging. we achieved this by adding a battle mechanic.
Gems:
Sword - Do more physical damage
Shield - Apply Armour to the Player
Heart - Heal the Player
Bubbles - Apply poison to the enemy (damage over time)
Explosion - Daze enemy for a short time
The player would face off an opponent who would deal damage to the player, the player could have to tactically think about their next move, would they connect sword gems to deal pure damage or link the shield gems to gain armour in anticipation for the enemies next blow.
Early on in the development, the team decided that they wanted social media support, we decided to focus on Facebook, this decision would come back to hinder the team. Integrating Facebook into Match Attack took way too long, which resulted in some of the Gameplay mechanics not being as polished and the team would have liked.
Overall this project a good learning experience, if I was going to do it again, I would focus on the gameplay over sign-in features, it was cool to have Facebook integrated but I underestimated how long it would take me to implement. I enjoyed working on the game and I liked that we tried to be different with our combat system compared to the standard match-three games you see on the Play store.
